2002 Merlot Grapes

Merlot is best known for its velvety, smooth and mellow characteristics and it is often used to blend with the variety Cabernet Sauvignon.

All the Merlot vines at Domaine Sainte Rose were green harvested during July 2002 in order to produce concentrated, full-flavoured fruit.  The Merlot was harvested on the 13th of September when the grapes registered 14.0 Baumé and had an acidity content of 3.6 grams/litre H2S04.  The quality of the fruit was exceptional by local standards.

The Merlot was macerated for 3 weeks in order to extract flavour and colour and a portion of the Merlot was be oak-aged.

Domaine Sainte Rose produced one merlot based wine from the 2002 vintage.
