2005 Merlot Grapes

Merlot is best known for its velvety, smooth and mellow characteristics and it is often used to blend with the variety Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Merlot was harvested on the 4th of September when the grapes registered 14.0 Baumé and had an acidity content of 3.59 grams/litre H2S04.  The quality of the fruit was exceptional by local standards.

The Merlot was macerated for 3 weeks in order to extract flavour and colour and a portion of the Merlot was oak-aged.

Domaine Sainte Rose will produce one merlot based wine from the 2005 vintage.

The Mistral Merlot- Oak aged
