2005 Grenache Grapes
Grenache is a red grape variety of Spanish origin, which produces medium to
full bodied, high alcohol wines. It can produce dense, structured wines of
high quality if yields are kept low, but too often it is over-cropped, resulting
in lightish wines of little interest.
The Grenache vines at Domaine Sainte Rose are estimated to be between 35 and
40 years old. All the Grenache vines at the Domaine produce low yields of concentrated, full-flavoured
fruit. The Grenache was harvested on the 27th of September when the grapes
registered 13.8 Baumé and had an
acidity content of 3.2 grams/litre H2S04. The Grenache will be
macerated for 3 weeks in
order to extract flavour and colour.
Domaine Sainte Rose will produce a single Grenache based wine from the 200 5 vintage:
La Garrigue-
A special blend of
Syrah, Grenache and
Carignan
