2007 Syrah Grapes

Syrah is a red grape variety, grown particularly in the northern Rhone, Languedoc and in Australia (where it is known as Shiraz).  At Sainte Rose we make three different Syrah-based wines.

Initially the Syrah will be gently macerated in order to extract flavour and colour.  The juice will then be treated in different ways depending on the style of the end product.  Some will be tank-fermented and blended with Grenache to make the cult wine La Garrigue.  Some will be barrel fermented and barrel aged to produce Le Pinacle Syrah and Le Soleil du Sud.

The Syrah was harvested on the 17th of September when the grapes registered 13.2 Baumé and had an acidity content of 4.2 grams/litre H2S04.  Just after we finished harvesting the weather broke and we received 50 mm of rain during a violent storm!

Domaine Sainte Rose will produce three Syrah based products from the 2007 vintage:

La Garrigue- A special blend of  Syrah, Grenache and Carignan

Le Soleil du Sud Cabernet Sauvignon / Syrah- A concentrated blend of barrel aged Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.

Le Pinacle Syrah- A rich and powerful wine created from very ripe Syrah grapes, which is then aged in barrels for 12 months.
