2009 Mourvedre

Mourvedre, Spain's second most important black grape after Grenache, is also planted heavily in Provence and the Languedoc.  The variety buds and ripens notoriously late.  Wines made from Mourvedre are very useful for their structure.

The Mourvedre was picked on 30th September, 2009, when the alcohol potential was 14.3% Baumé and had an acidity content of 3.6 grams/litre H2S04.  THe Mourvedre will be gently macerated in order to extract flavour and colour.  This is the first crop to be taken from the Mourvedre vines, which were planted in March 2007

Domaine Sainte Rose will produce a single Mourvedre based wine from the 2009 vintage:

La Garrigue- A special blend of  Syrah, Mourvedre, and Grenache
