Petit Verdot
Petit Verdot is a little know variety although is one of
Bordeaux's classic black grape varieties. No longer planted in any great
quantity but enjoying a small revival. The variety normally ripens later
than Cabernet Sauvignon. It also shares Cabernet's resistance to rot.
When it rippens fully it goes on to make rich, age-worthy, and sometimes spicy
wines.
The Petit Verdot at Domaine Sainte Rose, was
harvested on the 12th of September when the grapes registered 13.8
Baumé and had an
acidity content of 3.7 grams/litre H2S04. This is the first crop to be
taken from the Petit Verdot vines, which were planted in March 2007
The Petit Verdot will be gently macerated in order
to extract flavour and colour.
